The Finance Dashboard gives treasurers and leaders a visual overview of your group's financial health. Treasurers see the full picture -- cash position, collection rates, category breakdowns, budgets, and action items. Section leaders see a focused view of their own section's spending and budget.
Opening the Dashboard
Click Finance in the sidebar navigation. If accounting has not been set up yet, you will see an empty state with a Get Started button that launches the accounting setup wizard. Once configured, the full dashboard loads automatically.
First-Time Setup
The first time a treasurer or group admin opens the Finance page, the Accounting Setup Wizard walks you through initial configuration -- setting your financial year, chart of accounts, and bank accounts. You only need to do this once; after that the dashboard populates with your data.
Access Levels
The dashboard adapts to your role:
| Role | What you see | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Treasurer / Group Admin | Full dashboard with all sections described below | /finance/dashboard |
| Section Leader | Section-specific budget, spending, and category breakdown | /finance/section-dashboard |
| Leader (no section) | Message to contact your admin for section assignment | /finance/dashboard |
| Parent | No access to financial data | -- |
Dashboard Sections (Treasurer View)
The treasurer dashboard is organised into collapsible sections. Each can be expanded or collapsed by clicking its header.
Needs Attention
Shows action items that require your attention -- uncategorised transactions, unreconciled bank statements, overdue expense claims, and similar tasks. Each item links directly to the page where you can resolve it.
Cash Position
Two side-by-side cards:
- Cash Position -- your current cash balance across all bank accounts, with income and expenses for the current period.
- Collection Health -- how effectively your group is collecting payments. Shows collection rates and any outstanding amounts.
Insights
Collapsed by default. Contains:
- Monthly Trend Chart -- a bar chart of income and expenses month by month across the current accounting period.
- Category Breakdown -- a pie chart showing how spending is distributed across your chart of accounts categories.
Budget Tracking
Three cards in a row:
- Section Spending -- progress bars showing each section's actual spending against its budget allocation.
- Event Budgets -- budget cards for upcoming events, showing allocated versus spent amounts.
- Other Budgets -- group-wide and section-specific budgets that are not tied to a specific event.
Finance Actions
The Finance Actions dropdown in the top-right corner of the page gives quick access to common tasks:
- Add Transaction -- manually record income or expenses.
- Import Statement -- launch the CSV bank import wizard.
- Reconcile -- open the bank reconciliation dialog.
- Manage Budgets -- create and edit budget allocations.
- Close Period -- close the current accounting period (year-end).
Year-End Reminder
When the current accounting period is approaching its end date, a Year-End Reminder banner appears below the page header. Click the banner action to open the Close Accounting Period dialog and begin the year-end process.
Budget Warnings
If any budgets are approaching or exceeding their limits, a Budget Warnings banner appears with a summary. Click View Budgets to open the budget management dialog.
Section Leader View
Section leaders who do not have treasurer access see a simplified Section Finances page. It focuses on:
- Budget and spending for the sections you lead.
- Category breakdown for your section's transactions.
- Recent transactions linked to your section.
If you lead multiple sections, a dropdown at the top lets you switch between them.
What's next
- Accounting and Bookkeeping -- learn how to record and categorise transactions.
- Budgets and Financial Reports -- create budgets and generate reports for your committee.
