Badge tracking in Scoutworks
Scoutworks comes pre-loaded with the full Scouts badge programme for every section type — Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, and more. You do not need to manually set up badge requirements. It is all there ready to go from the moment you create your sections.
To get started, navigate to Badges in the sidebar. This takes you to the main badge tracking area where you can browse, assign, and manage badges for your members.
How it works
Badge tracking in Scoutworks follows the real-world badge journey:
- Browse available badges — See all badges available for your section type, pre-loaded from the official programme
- Track progress per member — Monitor which requirements each member has completed
- Sign off requirements — Mark individual requirements as done when members complete them
- Award the badge — Formally record the badge as earned once all requirements are met
The Badges page has three tabs — By Badge, By Person, and Reports. The Badge Actions dropdown at the top of the page gives you quick access to key workflows: Sign off Badges, Award Badges, Requirement Finder, Import Badge Records, Manage Stock, Add Custom Badge, Manage Custom Badges, and Send Badge Check.
Viewing badge progress
There are two ways to view badge progress:
By member
Go to a member's profile and open the Badges tab. You will see:
- Badges in progress with percentage complete
- Completed badges with the date awarded
- Available badges not yet started
By badge
Go to your section's Badges page and select a specific badge. You will see:
- Which members are working on this badge
- Progress for each member
- Who has completed the badge
Marking requirements
To mark a requirement as complete:
- Open the badge from either the member view or the badge view
- Find the requirement you want to sign off
- Tap the checkbox to mark it complete
- Optionally add a date and notes
Adding requirements to an upcoming event
You can also work the other way round. If you are looking at a badge and wondering which meeting will cover it, link the requirements to an event without leaving the badge.
- Open the badge from the By Badge tab
- Select Add to an event in the badge header
- Tick the requirements the meeting will cover
- Choose the event — search by name if you have a lot coming up
- Select Add to event
Only future events are offered. Linking a requirement to a meeting that has already happened would record progress for nobody.
What you add joins whatever the event already covers — it never replaces it. The full list is on the event's Badges tab, ready to sign off for everyone who turned up once the meeting has run.
On a staged badge, open the individual stage first. The overview across all stages has no single set of requirements to link, so the button is not there.
Awarding badges
When a member completes all requirements for a badge, Scoutworks highlights it as ready to award. You can:
- Award immediately from the member's badge progress view
- Batch award multiple members at once
- Set an award date to record when the badge was formally presented
For full details on individual and bulk awarding, see the Awarding Badges article.
Evidence from parents
Parents can submit evidence of badge work through the parent portal — uploading photos, notes, or documents. Leaders review these submissions in the Review Evidence queue. Approved evidence contributes to badge completion automatically.
Badge reporting
Scoutworks generates a range of reports to help you stay on top of badge progress. You will find them on the Reports tab of the Badges page:
- Joining In Report — Track participation across the programme
- Top Award Progress Report — Monitor progress towards top awards
- Member Badge Report — Individual member badge summaries
- Badges to Award Report — See which badges are ready to be presented
- Badges Awarded Report — Review recently awarded badges
- Badge Progress Detail — A spreadsheet of every requirement your members have progress against
- Badge Progress Poster — Generate visual posters for your meeting place
- Badge Inserts — Print badge record inserts
For deeper analytics, visit the Insights page and select the Badges tab.
