You do not need to tick badge requirements one young person at a time. You link the requirements to an event, take the register, and then sign off everyone who attended in one step. Nights Away, Hikes Away and Time on Water work the same way.
This article explains what counts, when it counts, and how to fix a mistake.
How it works
- Before the event, you link badge requirements to it. For a camp, you also record the nights away.
- On the day, you mark who is present on the register.
- After the event starts, you sign off the requirements. Scoutworks offers them to the young people you marked present.
Step 1: Link requirements to the event
- Open the event and go to its Badges tab.
- Click Add badge requirements.
- Find a badge and tick the requirements your programme covers.
You can link requirements from more than one badge. A badge only counts for young people in the section it belongs to.
Recording nights away for a camp
- In Add badge requirements, choose the Nights Away badge and add a night away.
- The Record Nights Away window opens. The Start Date and End Date come from the event dates.
- Split the nights between Indoor Nights and Outdoor Nights. Scoutworks puts every night under outdoor to start with.
- Save the entry.
The number of nights is the sum of indoor and outdoor nights. You must record at least one night. If a camp has two different stays, add a separate entry for each.
Hikes Away and Time on Water are added the same way, as an activity on the event.
Step 2: Take the register
Mark who attended on the event's Attendance tab. See Managing Attendance.
A Young Leader who has no register row of their own counts as present when they accepted the event as a leader.
Step 3: Sign off the requirements
- Open the event. On the Details tab, find Quick actions and click Sign off badges.
- Choose how to sign off:
- Everyone (the default) signs off every linked requirement for every young person marked present in the badge's section.
- Pick specific requirements lets you choose the requirements, and who gets each one.
- Check the summary, then click Confirm & Sign Off.
Sign off badges appears only after the event has started. If nobody is marked present yet, Scoutworks shows Mark attendance first and a Take Attendance button.
If you run the sign-off again, Scoutworks skips anyone who already has the requirement from this event. If you add more nights or activities to the event later, only the new entries are signed off.
How nights and stages are counted
Each sign-off adds one record to the young person's Nights Away, Hikes Away or Time on Water history. For a camp, the record holds the number of nights from the event.
Scoutworks adds up every record. When the total reaches the next stage, it marks that stage Ready to award.
| Badge | Stages |
|---|---|
| Nights Away | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 35, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200 nights |
| Hikes Away | 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 35 and 50 hikes |
Every young person you sign off gets the same number of nights. If someone came for only part of a camp, use Pick specific requirements to leave them out, and record their nights on their own.
Some ordinary requirements need several sessions, for example "take part in three meetings". Each event sign-off counts as one session. The requirement is complete when the count reaches the target.
Correcting a record
To change or remove nights that are wrong:
- Go to Badges and open the Nights Away badge.
- Click the young person's row. Their recorded stays show in a list.
- Open the ⋯ menu on a stay and choose Edit or Delete.
When you delete a stay, Scoutworks counts the total again. If the total falls below a stage that was Ready to award, that stage goes back to in progress.
Joining In Awards are not counted from attendance
Joining In Awards come from the date a young person joined the movement. Scoutworks works out each award from that date. Event attendance does not change them.
