Opening the member dialog
Click any member row on the Members page, or use the kebab menu and select Edit. This opens the member detail dialog with all their information organised into tabs.
Dialog tabs
The member dialog has eight tabs: Info | Details | Parents | Siblings | Emergency | Consent | SEN | Medical.
Info tab — Child Information
| Field | Required | Options |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Yes | Their legal first name |
| Preferred Name | No | The name they actually go by |
| Last Name | Yes | |
| Gender | No | Male, Female, Self-identify |
| Date of Birth | Yes | Date picker |
| Ethnicity | No | |
| Religion | No |
Preferred names
Albert goes by Bertie. Charlotte goes by Lottie. Fill in Preferred Name and Scoutworks uses it where it matters most:
| Where | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Registers, attendance and camp lists | The everyday name — "Bertie Smith" |
| Members list, member record header | Both — "Bertie (Albert) Smith", so you can still match a record to a form |
| Search, including the global search box | Either name finds them |
Leave the field empty and nothing changes — the member is shown by their legal name as before. Clear it later and they go back to their legal name straight away.
Details tab — Scout Details
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sections | Yes | Multi-select — which sections the member belongs to |
| Joined Movement | Yes | When the member first joined Scouting |
| Started Current Section | No | When they moved to their current section |
| Lodge/Six/Patrol | No | Their sub-group within the section |
| Role | No | Their role within the section (e.g. Sixer, Seconder) |
| School | No | |
| Hobbies & Interests | No |
