Giving Your Child Their Own Scouting Login

How to set up a My Scouting login for your Scout or Explorer with a username and memorable password, hand over the details safely, and reset or switch off access whenever you need to.

Once your child is around 10 and a half, they can have their own corner of Scouting to call their own — a place called My Scouting where they can see their badges, look back on what they've been up to, and have a say in what their section does next. You set the login up for them, you stay in control of it, and you can switch it off at any time. This article walks through how to create the login, hand the details to your child safely, and manage it afterwards.

Where to find this

Sign in to your parent area and open My Children, then choose the child you'd like to set up. On their page you'll find a My Scouting login section. If your child is old enough and in a Scout or Explorer section, you'll see a button to get started. If they're younger, the section will let you know My Scouting isn't available for their age group yet.

Setting up the login

Setting up a login takes a moment. You'll choose two things for your child:

What you chooseWhat to know
UsernameThis is how your child signs in. Pick something simple they'll remember. Scoutworks checks it's free as you type.
Memorable passwordA short, friendly password your child can remember — not the long, complex sort you'd use for your own accounts.

Your child does not use an email address to sign in, and Scoutworks never emails them. Everything to do with their account — invitations, reminders, anything else — still comes to you.

Handing the details over safely

When you've created the login, Scoutworks shows you a tidy summary of your child's username and password in one place, ready to pass on. There's a Copy button so you can paste the details into a note for your child, or you can simply read them out and let them type them in.

The sign-in page for My Scouting is separate from the one you use. Your child opens it, types in the username and memorable password you chose together, and they're in. There's nothing else to set up — no email to confirm, no link to click.

Resetting the password

If your child forgets their password, you don't need to contact anyone. Open their My Scouting login section again and choose Reset password. You'll set a fresh memorable password and get the same copy-and-hand-over summary as before. The old password stops working straight away.

Switching access on or off

You're always in charge of whether My Scouting is switched on for your child. From the same section you can switch their access off whenever you like — for example if they've grown out of it, or you'd simply prefer to pause it. Switching it off signs them out and stops the login working until you switch it back on. Nothing your child has done in Scouting is lost — their badges, attendance and history all stay exactly where they are on their record.

What your child can and can't see

My Scouting is built to be a safe, friendly space that shows your child only their own Scouting world. They can see their own badges and the steps left to earn them, look back on their own milestones and attendance, and suggest activities for their section. They can't message other children, see anyone else's details, or compare themselves against other young people — there are no leaderboards or rankings. Anything a leader needs to share that involves you, or any decision about cost or consent, still comes to you in your parent area.
