Section Management
Sections in Scoutworks represent the real sections in your group — your Monday Beavers, your Thursday Cubs, your Saturday Scouts. Each section has its own members, events, badges, and programme.
Navigate to Settings and find the Section Management section. The subtitle tells you what you can do:
- Admins see: "Create and manage custom sections for your group"
- Leaders see: "Manage the sections you lead"
Creating a section
Admins can create new sections from the Section Management area. Each section needs:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | A descriptive name (e.g. "Monday Beavers", "1st Anytown Cubs") |
| Colour | A colour to visually distinguish this section in calendars, charts, and badges |
| Meeting Day | The regular meeting day |
| Meeting Time | The regular meeting time |
| Location | Linked to a saved Meeting Location from your group settings |
| Age Group | The section type (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network) |
| Assigned Leaders | Which leaders have access to this section |
Why the age group matters
The Age Group (section type) determines which badges are available for that section. Beaver Scouts see Beaver badges, Cub Scouts see Cub badges, and so on. Setting this correctly ensures badge tracking works properly from day one.
Editing sections
Click any section to edit its details. You can change the name, colour, meeting schedule, location, and assigned leaders at any time.
Leader visibility
- Admins see all sections across the group.
- Leaders see only the sections they are assigned to.
This means a Beaver leader cannot accidentally see or modify Cub data, keeping everything tidy and secure.
What's next
- Group Settings — other group-level configuration.
- Managing Users and Roles — assign leaders to sections.
