Every group runs on a handful of practical links — the section WhatsApp group, the uniform shop, the group website, a fundraising page. Shared one at a time in messages and emails, parents lose them. The Group resources card collects them in one place on the parent dashboard, alongside a short welcome note from the group.
Where to find this
Open Settings from the sidebar and expand the Parent Dashboard Resources section. What you can do there depends on your role:
- Group Admins manage everything — the info block, every link, and the order they appear in.
- Section leaders can add and manage links for the sections they lead. The info block and links shown to all parents are admin-only.
A live preview on the right shows the card exactly as parents will see it, updating as you type.
Adding links
Click Add link to add a new one. If you haven't added any yet, you'll see quick-start buttons for the links parents ask for most — Uniform shop, WhatsApp group, and Group website — which open the same dialog with the title filled in for you.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | What parents see in the card (e.g. "Uniform shop") — up to 100 characters |
| URL | Yes | The full web address, starting with http:// or https:// |
| Sections | Optional | Leave empty to show the link to all parents, or tick sections to show it only to parents with a child in those sections. Section leaders must pick at least one of their own sections. |
Each group can have up to 10 links — a deliberately short list, so the card stays useful rather than becoming a link dump. When you're near the limit, a counter appears next to the Links heading.
Once you have a few links, drag the handle on the left of each row to change the order parents see them in (Group Admins only). To change or remove a link, use the pencil and bin icons on its row.
Writing the info block
The info block is a paragraph or two of formatted text shown at the top of the resources card — a good home for the things every parent needs to know, like uniform shop opening hours or where to park. Type into the editor and click Save when you're happy. Only Group Admins can edit it.
What parents see
Parents get a Group resources card on their dashboard with the info block at the top, then your links, and a Subscribe to calendar button.
A few things happen quietly on the parent's side:
- Section filtering — each parent sees the links shared with all parents, plus any links for their children's sections. A parent with children in two sections sees both sets, with no duplicates.
- Links open in a new tab — parents won't lose their place in Scoutworks.
- WhatsApp QR codes — clicking the QR button next to a WhatsApp link shows a code to scan with their phone.
If your group hasn't added anything yet, parents see no card at all — there's no empty box nagging anyone to fill it in.
