Explorer Scouts usually belong to the district, not to a single group. Your district might run two Explorer units that meet on different nights in different towns. In Scoutworks, each unit your district runs has its own place, with its own members, leaders and events. The district creates the unit, and its leaders run it like a group.
Only district admins can create and manage units.
Where to find your units
- Switch into your district and click Settings.
- Open the Groups tab.
- Open District units.
The list shows each unit, its sections, how many young people it has, and when it was created.
Creating a unit
- In District units, click Create unit. If you have no units yet, click Create Explorer unit.
- On Your Unit, enter the Unit Name and the Meeting Location Postcode.
- On Schedule, choose the day it meets, its Start Time and its End Time.
- On Finish, enter the Maximum Capacity, which is how many young people the unit can take, and the name of the meeting place.
- Click Create Explorer Unit.
Scoutworks confirms that the unit was created. You are added to the unit, so you can open it straight away.
Opening a unit
Click Open next to the unit. You move into the unit as its leader. From there you add members, invite leaders and run events, as you would in a group.
A message at the bottom of the screen says you are now in the unit. Click Switch back to return to the district.
If a unit shows No access, you are not on that unit's team. Ask one of its admins to add you.
Keeping an eye on your units
Your units appear on the district dashboard with your groups, marked District unit. If a unit has nobody to run it, Needs you shows "[Unit] has no admin" so you can find someone.
Your district's waiting list link covers your units too. Families who want to join Explorers can choose a unit on the same form as your groups.
