You don't need to hear about every RSVP from every child in the group. If you run Friday Cubs, you want to know when a Friday Cubs parent changes their mind about camp — not when something shifts in the Tuesday Pack. Scoutworks scopes event notifications to the children in your section so the bell stays useful instead of turning into background noise.
Where notifications appear
Event notifications show up in two places:
- The bell icon in the top navigation, which opens the slide-out panel of recent activity.
- Your email inbox, if your group has email notifications switched on.
Both routes follow the same rules about who gets notified — they're driven by your role and the sections you're assigned to.
When an RSVP changes
If a parent says Yes, Maybe, No, or joins the waitlist on an event, Scoutworks decides who to tell using these rules:
| Role | Gets the notification? |
|---|---|
| Group admin | Always — admins see RSVP changes for every child in the group. |
| Section leader | Only if the child is in one of your assigned sections. |
| Event creator | Always — you stay in the loop about every RSVP for the events you set up. |
| Parent who RSVPed | No — you don't need a notification about the change you just made. |
So a leader assigned only to Friday Cubs won't be told about an RSVP from a child in Tuesday Cubs, even if both sections are joining the same camp. Each leader sees what's relevant to the children they actually look after.
When a new event is published
When an event moves out of Draft and into Published, everyone in the group gets a heads-up so they know there's something new in the calendar. New-event notifications aren't section-scoped — they're a general announcement, not a per-child update.
If you'd like to limit who actually sees a published event, use Invite only mode when you create it. See Inviting Specific Members to Events.
Why your section matters
Your assigned sections — set up in Settings → Users by a group admin — control the data you see across Scoutworks. Notifications use the same setting, so the alerts you get always match the children you can act on.
If you're getting notifications for children you don't recognise, your section assignments may need updating. Ask your group admin to review your row in Settings → Users and tick or untick sections as needed.
Quietening the bell
If your panel still feels noisy:
- Mark all read — clears the unread count without dismissing the notifications.
- Hover and dismiss — hover any notification and click the X to remove it.
- Filter to Unread — switch the panel filter so only new items show.
