Young people can help decide what your section does. Scoutworks gives them two ways to do this, and each depends on the login they have:
- Scouts and Explorers use their own My Scouting login. They suggest ideas and vote on them.
- Young Leaders use a full Scoutworks login with the Young Leader role. They can draft programme meetings for the sections they help with.
A leader approves everything before the section or its parents see it.

Suggesting an idea
- In My Scouting, go to Have Your Say.
- Type the idea, and add more detail if you want to.
- Tap Send to my leader.
The idea waits as Pending until a leader reviews it. The young person sees their own ideas under My ideas, with the status of each one.
Voting
When a leader approves an idea, it shows under Ideas to vote on for the whole section. Other young people see the idea, but not who suggested it. When a leader marks the idea as planned or done, it moves to Vote results.
Seeing what is planned
My Events shows the young person's upcoming events and whether they are going. They can open each event to see its details, schedule, kit list and menu, and tick off the kit they have packed.
My Scouting is for young people in Scouts and Explorers sections. See Welcome to My Scouting.
What leaders do with ideas
Leaders and admins review ideas on the Youth Voice page, under Programme in the sidebar.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Approve | The idea shows to the section, and young people can vote for it. |
| Decline | Nobody else sees the idea. |
| Set status → Mark as planned | The idea moves to Vote results, and the young people see that it is on its way. |
| Set status → Mark as done | The young people see that the idea happened. |
A leader can also click Add suggestion to add an idea on behalf of a section. That idea goes straight to the vote, with no review step.
See Moderating Youth Voice for the full review guide.
Young Leaders drafting programme meetings
A Young Leader can draft a series of programme meetings for the sections they are assigned to.
- Go to Events and click Create event.
- Choose Programme Meeting as the event type.
- Turn on Repeats on multiple dates and pick the dates.
- Choose the section, fill in the details, and save.
Scoutworks creates one event for each date. Every event a Young Leader creates is saved as a draft. Parents and young people do not see a draft.
A Young Leader can only choose sections they are assigned to. They can delete their own drafts until a leader publishes them.
The Programme Planner is for leaders and admins only.
What needs a leader
| What a young person does | Who must act next |
|---|---|
| Sends an idea from Have Your Say | A leader approves or declines it. |
| A Young Leader drafts programme meetings | A leader or admin publishes them. |
| Wants a one-off event, such as a camp | A leader creates it. |
