On a camp or a day out, a young person might need an inhaler at lunchtime, a regular tablet before bed, or a dab of antihistamine after a sting. Until now the choices were a scribbled note that's easy to lose, or a full incident report that's far more than a routine dose needs. The Medication tab gives leaders a quick, phone-friendly place to log exactly what was given, to whom, and when.
Opening the Medication tab
Open any event and select the Medication tab. It's only visible to leaders and group admins — parents and young people never see it.
The tab has two parts:
- Administration log — everything that's been given, grouped by day with the most recent at the top.
- Saved regular medications — repeat doses you've set up once so they're quick to log again.
Logging a dose or treatment
Click Log medication at the top of the tab. A panel slides in from the side. Fill in:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Type | Choose Prescribed medication or First-aid / treatment. |
| Who is this for? | Pick the young person. You can choose any member of your group, so you're never stuck if the event's sections don't line up with who's actually there. |
| Medication / Treatment given | What was given — for example Ventolin inhaler, or Antihistamine for a wasp sting. |
| Dose / amount | Optional — for example 2 puffs or 1 tablet (10mg). |
| When was it given? | The date and time of the dose. |
| Given by | The name of the leader who gave it. You can add a second name as a witness. |
| Notes | Optional — anything worth recording, such as a reaction, where an injury was, or follow-up needed. |
As soon as you choose who the dose is for, a short summary of that young person's recorded medical information and their parents' consent for over-the-counter medicines appears right above the rest of the form — so you can check it at the moment of dosing without leaving the screen.
When you've filled in the form, save the entry (or press ⌘ + Enter). It appears straight away at the top of the Administration log, under today's date.
Saving regular medications
Some young people take the same medication at the same time every day — a daily tablet, or an inhaler kept in their day bag. Instead of typing the details out at every dose, save them once.
In the Saved regular medications section, click Add regular medication and fill in:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Who is this for? | The young person the medication belongs to. |
| Medication name | For example Ventolin inhaler. |
| Dose | For example 2 puffs. |
| When | For example Lunchtime, with food. |
| Notes | For example Kept in the first-aid kit; inhaler in Jamie's day bag. |
Once saved, each regular medication shows a Log dose button. Tap it when you give that dose and a log entry is filled in for you — just confirm the time and who gave it. It's the fastest way to keep on top of the doses that repeat throughout a camp.
Editing or removing an entry
Every log entry and every saved medication has a menu (the three dots) for editing or deleting. Deleting asks you to confirm first, because the log is a record of the care you've given.
Routine doses vs serious incidents
The medication log is for routine doses and minor first aid. If something more serious happens — an allergic reaction, or an injury that needs more than basic first aid — record it as an accident or incident report instead. That workflow captures the fuller detail and includes a helper for submitting the required report to Scout HQ.
